Summary
DDS provided graphic system consulting and development services for a large documentation system project within leading commercial aircraft manufacturer.
Problem
The client was developing a system to help standardize the production of technical and engineering materials. The Electronic Maintenance and Operational Data (EMOD) software authoring system from Douglas Products Division is the resulting product. The EMOD system has sophisticated requirements for the handling of graphic images, and specific expertise in documentation graphic management is scarce.
Solution
Denver Data Systems was contracted to provide consulting services related to the management of graphical data throughout the publishing process. The entire system requirements were analyzed, and DDS provided detailed design for a system that would simplify graphic management while meeting their complicated needs. Requirements included:
- Ability to receive new or legacy graphics in a variety of formats
- Raster and vector image management
- Revision notation identification, extraction, storage, manipulation, and injection
- Manipulation of image content including margins, white space, and skewed images
- Ability to publish in a variety of formats
- Ability to publish against a variety of format standards (such as ATA or company specific)
- Efficient GUI based QA review of processed images
Recommended EMOD neutral standard for raster and vector formats. Developed and supported all components of designed system including:
- Utilities to identify, extract, store, manipulate, and inject visual revision information within TIFF images.
- Utilities to manipulate TIFF image content including margins, white space, and skewed images
- C++ based dynamic link libraries/shared objects for the above functions
- Dual platform release of all above components for LINUX and Win32
- GUI for the QA of processed images
